KUCHING: The state government is looking into developing agro-technology parks statewide to help study and market products and crops to the international market.

Minister of Agriculture Modernisation and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Utom said the agro-technology parks were planned for Semenggoh, Tarat and Sebiew.

He said studies would be carried out on crops that suited the needs of industry and society.

“My ministry will examine in detail the facilities and technology to be placed in the agro-technology parks. This is to ensure that the products and crops produced are in accordance with global standards and quality,” he said during a press conference after officiating at the Institut Pertanian Sarawak’s 16th convocation ceremony at RAIA Hotel and Convention Centre here today.

Rundi said engagement sessions with stakeholders and industry players would also be held to provide the agro-technology parks with external market network.

“Cooperation with these stakeholders is important in making sure that the products and crops can be marketed as they meet the standards and quality.

“We have discussed with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and he is supportive of the idea. We will ensure that this is achieved under the 12th Malaysia Plan.

“It is a long process which is long overdue as well. We will do our best so we can meet the target,” he said.
