KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Women’s wing has joined in the call for more women to be fielded as candidates in the coming elections.

Its chief Kho Teck Wan, said there were many qualified women in the state who could become excellent peoples’ representatives.

“As a woman in politics, I will push for more women candidates regardless of their parties,” she told New Sarawak Tribune on Sunday when asked to comment on whether the party would field more women candidates in the coming 12th state election and 15th general election.

Kho said SUPP had about 120,000 members with close to even distribution of men and women members.

On June 20, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women’s chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, also said she hoped to see more women candidates fielded in the coming state election. “We hope there will be more women candidates,” she said during the PBB Supreme Council meeting at its headquarters here.
