Motorcyclist killed in fatal hit-and-run at Jalan Batu Kawa

KUCHING: A factory worker was killed in an apparent hit-and-run accident at Jalan Batu Kawa last night (May 31).

The alleged incident involving a car and a motorcycle, happened around 11pm in front of a petrol station.

Sarawak Traffic Police chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said both vehicles were nowhere to be seen when the police arrived.

“However, they found the body of the 40-year-old victim, Safiee Yusup, at the scene.

“The victim suffered head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) paramedics,” he said, adding that the body was taken to the hospital for a post mortem.

A plate number of a vehicle (ST1899Y) was recovered from the scene.  

Alexson said the victim’s motorcycle was later found by the roadside at Jalan Moyan.

It is understood that the vehicle involved was a Honda BRV and efforts to locate the car is in full swing.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is requested to go to the nearest police station to facilitate investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
