KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii yesterday visited a constituent in dire need of help.
“The gentleman had a workplace accident about 10 months ago, causing his spine to be damaged. He is now unable to walk properly and can only move slowly with the help of stretches,” he explained.

Dr Yii and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong visited the man who used to work odd jobs.

“Due to this, he has no Social Security Organisation (SOCSO) or any work insurance. Given his current condition, he can no longer work and has no income.

“He has a wife and young children to support and they are surviving on kind aid from his neighbours,” he said.

Dr Yii assured that he would be looking at helping the man with some financial assistance and food aid as well as medical and daily expanses.

“We will ensure that his children get support to go to school. We are also looking at purchasing a proper bed for him so he does not have to sleep on the floor and it will be easier for him to get up if necessary,” he said.

On a separate occasion, the pair continued with the ‘Bandar Kuching Back to School’ programme by sending new uniforms and shoes to students in SJK Pending, SJK Bintawa, SJK Sungai Apong, SK Kenyalang and SJK Chung Hua No 5.

“We work with each school to identify students that are in need then we purchase two sets of uniforms and shoes for them.

“Hopefully this encourages them to study well and be good students,” he added.
