MUKAH: The much-awaited RM302.4 million new Mukah Airport is scheduled for completion by Jan next year.

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo said works on the project have been disrupted for at least three months earlier this year due to the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“However, construction work has resumed as usual and based on the work done so far, the project will be completed by early next year,” he told New Sarawak Tribune’s sister paper Suara Sarawak.

Yussibnosh said the new airport is crucial for Mukah’s development and would play an important link in the growing industry here and its surrounding areas.

It will replace the existing one which only caters for small aircrafts such as MASwings Twin Otter.

The new airport, once it is in operation, could cater for an ATR (a twin-engine turboprop, short-haul regional airliner developed and produced in France and Italy by aircraft manufacturer Aerei da Trasporti Regionale) aircraft, he added.
