MUKAH: The 2024 Mukah Kaul Festival, originally scheduled for seven days from April 22 to 28, has been postponed to July 15 to 21 this year.

The announcement was made by Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi.

“The meeting of the Mukah Kaul Main Committee No.2/2024 has unanimously decided to hold the 2024 Mukah Kaul Festival from July 15 to 21, 2024.

“This decision was made to respect the passing of the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“However, to respect the customs and traditions of the Melanau community, the Kaul Seraheng Kakan ceremony will still be carried out in a modest manner on April 20,” he said after the meeting of the Sarawak Melanau Association Federation at the new administration building meeting room here recently.

The Pesta Kaul Mukah is an annual week-long Kaul Festival traditionally held in April.

This year, Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is anticipated to attend the opening ceremony, and the Yang di-Pertua Negeri has been invited to participate in the Keman Kaul Ceremony.
