KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster, the Jalan Tanjung Cluster, has been identified in Bintulu.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said on Monday (March 15) that the index case was Case 12,173 — a 27-year-old local woman, who is an employee of a supermarket.

She was detected through a screening of symptomatic individuals on March 13 at Bintulu Health Clinic.

“The infected individual is likely to have gotten an infection from locals when she was in Bintulu, and she does not have close contact with any positive cases that have been identified previously.

“As a result of further investigation and active case detection among all employees in the supermarket, an additional 18 new cases tested positive.”

According to SDMC, active case detection would continue to trace all close contacts consisting of family members and social contacts to these cases.

“127 people were screened in which 19 were positive, including the index case, 106 were negative, while another two are still waiting for results.
