New cluster identified

KUCHING: A new Covid-19 cluster, dubbed the Besi Cluster, has been identified in Sarawak today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the cluster involves areas of  Demak Laut and Batu Lintang here.

“The index case for this cluster (case 1,040) have tested positive for Covid-19 as a result of a symptomatic individual screening on Nov 15.

“Active case detection (ACD) activities and close contact screening have detected four more Covid-19 positive cases.

“All cases have been admitted to the isolation ward at Sarawak General Hospital,” SDMC said today.

As of 12pm today, SDMC said 237 individuals have undergone screening. Five are tested positive, 220 tested negative and 12 are awaiting their laboratory test results.

The committee said the addition of the newly declared cluster brings the number of active clusters in the state to six.

It added that there we no additional cases from the other clusters namely, the Abell, Baki, Seladah, Greenhill and Wisma Saberkas clusters.
