12 teams to battle in Unity Cup League

KUCHING: A total of 12 teams will compete in the Unity Cup League 2017 football tournament whichkicks off today.

The organising chairman, Abang Muhammed Zaki Abang Abdillah said six of the teams competing for this first edition are AGTM FC, Petra Jaya FC, DJB FT, MP FC, Lanoon and Promax in group A. Meanwhile, six other teams in group B are RNB H, Pekada FC, Bocanisa, Daedalus, Kampung Tunku and Crobox FC. A total five football fields will be used for the season competition.

Among them are the football fields at SMK DPAHG Stampin, SMK Tabuan Jaya (Sports School), Puspen, Padang C Petra Jaya and the State Stadium, Petra Jaya (for final action),” said Abang Muhammed Zaki at a press conference recently.

Meanwhile, the group stage is expected to end on Nov 5 followed by semifinals on Nov 11 and 12 and the final on Nov 12. The meeting of team managers was also attended by President of Kuching Division Football Association (PBBK), Haji Rakawi Ibrahim.

The winners for this season will receive a challenge trophy, an accompany trophy and cash prizes. The tournament is organised by AGTM Matang Football Club in collaboration with R&B United Football Club. – By Faizal Bujang
