20 new applications to open petrol stations

KUCHING: Smart Stream Resources Sdn Bhd has received 20 new applications to open petrol stations in the state. Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who revealed this at a press conference yesterday, said two of the petrol stations were being built while eight applications were being processed. “Meanwhile, for the remaining 10 applications, the land has to be identified first,” he said.

The press conference took place after “Mesyuarat Perundingan Koperasi Negeri Sarawak” at Grand Magherita Hotel here. On the applications, Tengah added: “This is something that is good for us to help those in the rural areas as our aim is to supply petroleum products to them.

“They will get these products at the same prices as those in the urban areas,” added the Deputy Chief Mini s ter who is also the Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources. Smart Stream is a Bumiputera petrol and diesel supply company which operates in the rural and interior areas.

Touching on the meeting, the Minister explained that it aimed to act as a platform to discuss the direction and monitor the journey of corporations in Sarawak.

“This is also for us to improve and increase collaborations between our corporations with the federal and state government agencies. “It also aims to encourage an increase in collaborations with the private sector as it provides many opportunities,” he added.
