278 per cent hike in state’s dengue cases

KUCHING: There has been a 278 per cent increase in the state’s dengue cases in the first five weeks of this year compared to the same corresponding period last year.

To date, a total of 178 cases were recorded against 64 for the same corresponding period last year.

“Between Jan 20 and Jan 26 alone, which is the fourth week of this year, 20 cases were recorded while another 40 cases were recorded in the fifth week between Jan 27 and Feb 2,” a statement from the Health Ministry disclosed.

Overall, Sarawak is ranked ninth among all 13 states and the federal territories of Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur. Selangor topped the list with 9,042 cases followed by Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya 1,323 cases.

Nationwide, a total of 15,469 cases were recorded with 25 deaths.

So far, no death was recorded in Sarawak.
