SIBU: A total of 32 Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) auxiliary officers or Pegawai Bomba Bantuan (PBB) have been accredited with the completion training certificates.

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Director Khirudin Drahman officiated at the function held at Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station yesterday. According to Khirudin, the recruitment of the Bomba auxiliary officers would increase the manpower of firemen in Sarawak.

“With the recruitment of Bomba auxiliary officers, we could reduce the burden, especially in terms of the number of firemen in Sarawak.

“Because with the recruitment of the Bomba auxiliary officers, it will further empower our firemen, besides providing good services to the community,” he said.

This was said at a press conference after handing a certificate each to Bomba auxiliary officers, who completed the 10-day course starting from last October 18, held at Sungai Merah Fire and Rescue Station.

On the recruitment of Bomba auxiliary officers, Khirudin said those recruited were from local areas throughout Sarawak. “And with the recruitment…when they are return to their respective stations, we expect that with the knowledge that they have, they will be able to provide better services. “In Sarawak, there are search and rescue operations, astray, and drown cases… And most of these incidents happened in remote areas.

And this requires local people with local and topographic knowledge. “From our observations over the past two or three years, the presence of these Bomba auxiliary officers helps a lot, especially in terms of our ability to find victims,” he added. Thus, he was grateful with the good response from the local people on the career of Bomba auxiliary officers.

“We will continue the recruitment of Bomba auxiliary officers,” he said. Meanwhile, Awang Muhamad Azrullah Awang was awarded as the ‘best training participant’ accolade at the function. Head of Bomba Zone 4 Misran Bisara was among those present.
