DEBAK: Police here succeeded in arresting a man who was found in possession a drug known as syabu weighing two grammes during a raid made at a house in Taman Heng Ann here on Sunday night. According to police source in the District Narcotic Division of the District Police Headquarters (IPD) Betong, the suspect is aged 36 and works as contractor.

Originating from Sibu, the suspect was arrested infront of the house whereby the raid was conducted.

“Acting on public tip-off and investigations made by Betong Narcotic Criminal Investigation team and the raid itself, police managed to get hold of three packets of transparent plastic containers containing crystals suspected to be syabu drugs weighing about two grammes.

“All the drugs found concealed in the suspect’s pocket were said to be for personal use of the suspect and were later seized as well as brought to Betong District Police Headquarters as case exhibits,” explained the police source. The result of the urine screening done on the suspect showed it was positive of methamphetamine and amphetamine.

This case is investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Sect ion 15(1)(a) of the same Act. Upon conviction the offender could be sentenced to a maximum fine of RM100,000 or jailed not more than five years or both.
