KUCHING: Dennis Wong Chiew Hock emerged as the champion of the ‘Spicy King Challenge’ held in CityONE Megamall here yesterday.

He beat nine participants of the challenge by being the first to finish a bowl of ‘Double Hot Spicy Ramen’ in a record time of 0:34:04.

Wong took home prizes worth a total of RM2,000 including RM500 cash, one night’s stay in an executive suite room with buffet breakfast for two persons sponsored by Pullman, hampers, trophies and certificates.

Meanwhile, all the prizes as well as certificates of appreciation for the other participants were presented by the Operations Manager of Box World Sdn. Bhd, Emily Hii.

The Project Manager, Vivia Cheong said the level of spiciness of the noodles eaten by the 10 participants was 8,706 SHU.

“In this competition, each participant had to eat a packet of noodles named ‘Double Hot Spicy Ramen’ weighing 450 grammes. The noodles are reputed to be the hottest in the world.

“The winner is the participant who eats a bowl of ramen noodles in the fastest time,” said Cheong, adding that two women were among the ten finalists.

Elaborating more, she said the semifinals were held for three days to choose the 10 fastest eaters.

Cheong added 100 people took part in the semifinals.

The “Spicy King Challenge” was held in conjunction with the Samyang Korea roadshow which began on 30 March and ended yesterday.

“During this period, various events held included the UCSI Creative Cooking Competition and cooking demonstrations of creative dishes using the “Hot Spicy Ramen” as the main ingredient and many more, “explained Cheong.
