Five ASEAN ambassadors visit DEH

KUCHING: Ambassadors from five ASEAN countries, namely Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar paid a visit to the Digital Economy Hub (DEH) at One Jaya Shopping Mall, Jalan Song here yesterday.

Speaking during the event, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Economy Hub (DEH), Eddie Wee said that the centre started its operation since 1 January 2018 and has attracted thousands of students to the centre.

“They come here to know about digital technology and familiarise themselves with the latest technology in the market,” he added.

He revealed that the centre is a private sector’s initiative to promote digital technology education and adoption of digital technology by SMEs in response to the Chief Minister’s call on digital economy transformation.

“This is to educate the younger generation and expose them with digital technology so that they get involved in the development of digital economy.

“And there are industrialist who actually want to adopt digital economy in their business and industry,” he said.

Wee added that the hub enables children from the age of 4 to be exposed to digital technology as well as adults who have yet to familiarise themselves with the latest technology.

He believed that the transformation of digital economy would occur when everyone gets involved in digital technology.

“We are the official country and exclusive distributor of these technologies distributor of these technologies such as Makeblock (Robotics system), Dobot (Robotics Arm), 3D Printers (locally developed Proteus and international partner Zeemaker).

“We aim to help develop many Digital Economy Hubs to attract talents in every city and state after Sarawak. Our next hub in the making is in Kuala Lumpur,” added the CEO of DEH.
