KUCHING: Miss World Malaysia 2018, Larissa Ping will serve as the Tourism Ambassador of Sarawak for a year.

Tourism,  Arts,  Culture,  Youth and Sports  Minister, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said during the period,  Larissa was expected to be a spokeperson for special tourism projects as well as promote local attractions.

“She will be also representing the country at the 68th Miss World Final in Sanya, China.

“She will join more than 120 national winners from around the world, competing over a series of activities over a one-month period. From there, they wil be trained and be involved in charity work, doing good deeds for the unfortunate,” Karim added during the Miss World Malaysia 2018 Appreciation Dinner at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here on Tuesday night.

He congratulated the organising committee for its success in organising the pageant here.

“I hope that the pageant will generate long term positive publicity for the state.

“The hosting of a national pageant affiliated with a global brand is good for promoting Sarawak to niche segments,” he added.

The pageant, which took place over a two- month period, cumulated in a star-studded Grand Final cum Gala Dinner on September 8 at BCCK.

The Grand Final saw the crowning of Larissa as the champion while the first runner-up was Shannen Jade Totten of Kuala Lumpur and second runner-up,   Dr Naomi Sim of Kuching.
