Madu and Bukit Kasut trails temporarily closed

Flood, fallen trees and damaged boardwalks
sighted within Madu Trail.

MIRI: The Madu and Bukit Kasut trails at Niah National Park are temporarily closed to the public with immediate effect due to flooding caused by incessant rain in the area for the past few days.

In announcing the temporary closure yesterday, Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) said water from a nearby river had overflowed and flooded the Madu Trail and this had rendered the trail and the connected Bukit Kasut Trail impassable.

Apart from that, fallen trees caused by strong winds had also damaged boardwalks at the Madu Trail and the aluminium ladder connecting Bukit Kasut Trail to the summit of Bukit Kasut.

SFC said both trails would be re-opened after clearing and repair works had been completed and deemed safe for the public.

For further inquiries and information, the public can contact the management of Niah National Park Office at 085-737454/450 and Miri National Park Booking Office at 085-434184/435384.
