‘Ops Libas’ nets 31 illegal migrant workers

MIRI: A girl was among 31 illegal immigrants (PATI) detained in Ops Libas at two separate locations here yesterday.

The four-hour operation which started from 9am to 12.30pm was conducted at a construction site in Senadin and a sub-station construction site in Tudan.

The raid was conducted by members of 12th Battalion General Operations Force (PGA) led by Inspector Rizuan Makladin in collaboration with the Miri Immigration Department Office.

Commanding Officer of 12th Battalion GOF, Superintendent Tan Hiap Seng said that in the operation, 54 Indonesian immigrant workers were checked and out of the number, 31 were arrested after they were found to have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.

“Of the 31 arrested, 24 are men, six women and a girl. Those arrested aged between five and 50 years are being detained,” he said when contacted.

Tan added that a 27-year-old man, an employer of workers of the sub-station construction was also arrested.

According to Tan, all the arrestees were taken to Bekenu Immigration Depot and were handed over to the Miri Immigration Department Office for their further action.
