KUCHING: Sports organisations must emphasise unity within their midst and avoid any form of factions, said Assistant Minister of Sports, Snowdan Lawan.

He said if leaders and members of sports organisations harbour on differences instead of the esprit de corp, then it defeats the true spirit of sports which propagate good discipline and teamwork.

Snowdan stressed this when receiving a courtesy call from Sarawak Rugby Union (SRU) at his office in Stutong Commercial Centre, here, on Tuesday morning.

He lauded the exemplary demonstration of unity by SRU which have affiliates in Kuching, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu and Miri.

The SRU team which were led by its president, Richard Song Swee Jin comprised Louis Jarau (deputy president), Lawrence Tan (treasurer), Thomas Jacques (advisor) and William Chan (publicity executive).

At the meeting, the team briefed Snowdan on the rugby activities planned for the year in Sarawak, apart from the plan to improve the Song Kheng Hai rugby field and make it more conducive for rugby games, including the possibility of putting up turf field.

The Song Kheng Hai rugby field should be treasured as the rugby heritage field, as it had spanned almost six decades of existence, said the Assistant Minister.
