Tun Taib sworn in for second term

KUCHING: Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud was sworn in as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri for a second term at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) here yesterday.

He signed the Letter of Oath and Declaration Letter, which was witnessed by the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg and Kuching High Court Judge, Datuk Yew Jen Kie

The ceremony began with the reading of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Appointment Letter by the Chief Minister.

At the same ceremony, Tun Taib received a Royal Salute from the 11th Battalion of Kuching General Operations Force (PGA) which comprised 105 officers and members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).

On February 7, 2018, the 81-year-old received an Appointment Letter from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V at Istana Negara in Kuala Lumpur.

Also present at the ceremony were Tun Taib’s wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Patinggi Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, DUN Speaker, Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, state cabinet ministers and dignitaries.
