KUCHING: The country’s stability is equally important as Sarawak’s rights and interests can only be pursued if there exists a stable and legitimate federal administration.

Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Corporate Affairs and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) Abdullah Saidol said, “All Pakatan Harapan (PH) political leaders including those in Sarawak must be reminded that when PH took over Putrajaya, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) were always showing their sincerity of wanting and ever willing to cooperate with the federal government on various matters particularly in the interests of Sarawak.

“We in GPS respected the people’s choice of wanting the federal administration to be changed and looking forward to the so-called ‘Malaysia Baru’.

“GPS never made things difficult or acted hostile against PH federal government,” he said.

He added that Sarawak GPS had always observed the true spirit of federalism as stipulated in the Federal Constitution in its relationship with the federal government.

“Our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had firmly said that Sarawak’s rights and interests will not be compromised in our decision of whom to support as prime minister.”

On Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen’s offer to work with GPS, he said the offer was not convincing and the state government should treat such offer with scepticism.

Abdullah said that he (Chong) can’t blame the state government because he (Chong) has failed the Sarawak people with his many promises.

Abdullah said that the GPS government was ever willing to cooperate with the new federal administration to ensure that the nation can move forward, stabilise the economy and immediately address the people’s needs and welfare.
