No new case for third consecutive day

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded no new positive Covid-19 case today for the third consecutive day, with the total number of positive cases in the state remaining at 552.

According to a statement by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) today, two new cases had recovered and were discharged from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“Thus far, the total number of Covid-19 cases which have recovered and been discharged is 501, or 90.76 per cent,” it said.

It added that 12 new person under investigation (PUI) cases were reported today and 27 cases were still awaiting laboratory results.

As for the 339 samples which had been taken at Belawai, Tanjung Manis on Friday (May 29), 91 were negative while 248 were still pending laboratory results.

As of today, there were 33 cases undergoing treatment at hospitals, with one in intensive care unit (ICU). None required breathing assistance.

On persons under surveillance (PUS), the committee said that 447 PUS had checked into hotels to undergo quarantine, bringing the total number of PUS in 38 hotels statewide to 854 while 12,225 PUS had completed their quarantine period.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported that 5,598 applications for inter-district movement were received at 28 Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) headquarters throughout Sarawak today, bringing the cumulative total to 88,359 applications.

“Of this total, 80,461 have been approved and 7,896 have been rejected,” it said.

It revealed that the surveillance team comprising 799 members had monitored 1,898 locations today, including supermarkets (252), restaurants (339), factories (28), banks (177), government offices (88), hawkers (20), public markets (108), places of worship (98), recreational places (55), construction sites (16), and others (717).

Seventeen arrests were made today for violating the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

“Nineteen members of the public were compounded for trying to cross districts without a police permit, bringing the total to 147 compounded since May 19,” said the committee.

It added as of today, the Ministry of Local Government and Housing had received 22,959 business and industry notifications.
