MUKAH: Like most people, Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo is also worried about Sarawak government’s plan to hold its 12th state election soon amid Covid-19 pandemic.

He was very well aware of the real threat posed by Covid-19, which had registered a record day-high of 317 cases nationwide last Saturday.

“It is not appropriate to hold the 12th state election (soon).

“This is because the interest and safety of the people must be given priority, he said on Monday (Oct 5).

Moreover, he added the current State Legislative Assembly term is still valid until June 2021.

Last Saturday, when officiating at the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) mini convention at a leading hotel in Sibu, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was reported to be signalling that Sarawak will be holding its election “anytime from now” amid a surge in Covid-19 cases in Malaysia lately.

Sarawak’s plan to hold its election “anytime from now” also received similar reactions from various quarters, including the opposition, suggesting that it is not the right time to do so in the face of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
