ANWAR AS PM

KUCHING: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political gimmicks are not needed at this critical time when the nation is combating the Covid-19 pandemic, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing.

“A person of that standing and experience in government should not do such a thing, which to me is a bit childish.

“Our first aim now is how to contain Covid-19, not who will become the prime minister,” he said at a press conference at his office here today.

Masing revealed that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong had not made any contact with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) regarding the meeting with Anwar on Tuesday.

He said previously the Agong’s office had called GPS on the matter of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s appointment as Prime Minister.

“The Agong has not called GPS, as of now,” said Masing, who is also Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president.

On Anwar vying for the position of prime minister, he said the best time for him (Anwar) to have done so was when former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad resigned. He said once the spot was vacant, Anwar could then have come in claiming his majority in numbers.

“But why didn’t he do it? That was the best time for him to become prime minister,” questioned Masing.

He said the mandate had been given to the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, but they had hijacked it themselves.

“Mahathir was the one who capsized the boat,” he quipped.
