KUCHING: The charred remains of a teenage boy with disability were found in a shophouse at Jalan Liu Shan Bang, Mile 7 here which caught fire today (Jan 9).

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Henderi Ardimansyah said the remains of 12-year-old Jindra Hiew Zhi Tao were discovered at 5.26pm.

“His body was found in the living room on the second floor of a grocery store.

“The victim’s body was then handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital,” he said when met by reporters.

Henderi pointed out that the fire, which involved six shophouses, occurred around 3.30pm.

Firemen from Batu Lintang, Tabuan Jaya and Kota Samarahan stations were promptly dispatched to the scene.

The blaze was brought under control at 3.50pm.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
