Operation apprehends six for drugs

KUCHING: Six men found positive for drugs were detained by the police here in an integrated crime prevention operation (Ops Bersepadu Pencegahan Jenayah).

Kuching district police chief ACP Ashmon Bajah said they were among 72 individuals who were tested for drugs during the operation carried out on Wednesday night (Jul 8) from 11pm to 3am.

He said the enforcers comprised 52 officers and personnel from the Kuching Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).

“Inspections were carried out at four entertainment centre premises, six budget hotels as well as various public areas.

“A total of 72 locals were checked whereby the results of the initial examination and urine drug test found six men positive for drugs,” he said in a statement today.

Ashmon explained that the suspects were detained under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

“The Kuching police will continue to conduct intelligence and monitoring on entertainment centres and budget hotels to detect any form of criminal activities.

“This crime prevention operation is also a proactive action taken by the Kuching police to deter crime during the festive holiday season,” he explained.
