NSJA president Andy Jong (fourth left) presents a token of appreciation to Dennis after the launch of the programme.

MIRI: Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau viewed that the newly formed alliance of Democratic Action Party (DAP), Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) is nothing but a political gimmick for the coming 12th state election.

He said that the opposition always comes up with some sort of agenda during election season to gain the people’s votes.

“For us in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), we don’t feel threatened by the newly formed alliance from the three opposition parties. If they want to fight, let us fight in the election,” he said.

He said this after declaring open the Northern Sarawak Journalists Association (NSJA) blood drive campaign held at Bintang Megamall here, on Sunday (Jan 3).

The formation of the opposition coalition was announced on Saturday at DAP Sarawak’s headquarters in Kuching by its chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

Also present during the announcement were PKR Sarawak chairman Larry Sng and Amanah Sarawak chairman Abg Abdul Halil Abg Naili.

The three-party coalition would be contesting in all 82 state seats, with 47 seats allocated to PKR, 26 to DAP, and nine to Amanah.

Dennis said that the rakyat are wise enough to choose the political party that would be able to serve them better, and not those who promised them “the moon, stars, or paradise on earth”.

Hence, he reminded the people to be wary of those who promise things that they can never deliver.

“Unlike the opposition, we in GPS have proven our ability to develop the state and remain as the people’s first choice because we have clear direction and policies to implement and deliver our promises,” he said.

Dennis added that GPS’ track record as the ruling coalition in Sarawak proved that it is a coalition that cares for the people’s wellbeing.
