BARAM: The Orang Ulu community must be alongside the government so that they will have a voice and power to develop their area, says Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala.

He said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg was a leader who fulfilled promises made to the people, as evidenced by his extensive list of achievements in just four years of being chief minister.

“Our chief minister is a leader who delivers for the rakyat – no issue about that,” he said at the launch of the Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (MYSRBN), which was officiated at by Abang Johari in Long Terawan here today.

“The Gabungan Parti Sarawak government is a people-oriented government who will always strive for the interests and future of the people. Far different from the 22-month government who is already well-known for cancelling projects and failing to fulfil promises made to the people.”

He said the state government had a proven track record in delivering development to the people, while those who had always criticised it on social media did not.

“They are busy making a fuss about local issues just to incite the people to hate the government. They cannot resolve the issues they raised as they do not have power, though they are loud on social media. Do not waste time with these groups.”

On another matter, he said Mulu’s coverage for the Sarawak Alternative Rural Electrification Scheme (Sares) was now at 95 per cent within just three years of implementation.

He said the remaining five per cent were villages which were difficult to reach, hence the delay.

He also commended the government for the significant allocations directed towards development agencies, namely the Highland Development Agency (HDA), Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), and Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).

“For us in Mulu and Telang Usan, the allocation given to HDA to implement 52 projects is RM1.5 bln.”

The HDA deputy chairman said of these 52 projects, 32 were for road upgrades with an overall length of more than 420km of upgraded roads involved.

“As for water treatment plants, there are 18 projects including Long Terawan. At Long Terawan, the approval has been given and we are waiting for the tender of the water treatment plant costing RM10mil.”

He said these development projects were the state government’s efforts to provide for the people, believing that there would certainly be even more development projects for the Tutoh and Mulu areas in the future.
