Over 1kg drugs seized, man detained

KUCHING: Police arrested a man for possessing various drugs worth more than RM10,000 on Saturday (June 12).

An enforcement team assigned at a mounted roadblock along Jalan Airport, stopped the suspect’s vehicle for inspection at 5.45 pm.

District police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the team found a suspicious box hidden under the driver’s seat.

“Examinations found 1.1kg of Ecstasy pills and 15g of ketamine, valued around RM10,600 inside the box.

“The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and the drugs seized. He was later brought to the police station for further action,” Ashmon said.

He added that the suspect also tested positive for methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A (1) and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The drugs worth more than RM10,000, seized from the suspect.
