KUCHING: Police are at their wits’ end at how businessmen are plying their trade in parking lots in Padawan area.

Due to these businesses being set up in parking lots, car owners have a hard time finding spaces to park.

This situation is getting worst due to the Padawan Municipal Council’s (MPP) inefficiency to move business outlets to more suitable areas, said Padawan police chief, Supt Adil bin Bolhassan.

He said the situation appeared to be out of control with no sight of any solution taken by the council.

“These areas are in Kota Sentosa, Batu Kawah, Matang Jaya and Batu 10. The police, in particular CID and Traffic Enforcement of IPD Padawan had to take action by issuing summons to vehicles blocking traffic,” he said in despair.

Besides that, he said some traders caused obstacles by putting trash or objects infront of their shophouse parking lots without any indication that they paid for the parking lots.

Adil hoped that the MPP will take note of the problem and deal with it immediately as police had to do what should be done legally.

“If MPP doesn’t deal the problem in a more drastic manner, it will get worse and worse,” he added.

In another issue, he said police raided five gambling premises in MPP area and found that the premises were issued entertainment licence by MPP which is valid until end of this year.

He hoped that the MPP will assist police in curbing gambling activities and ordered such premises
to be closed in violation against the stipulated condition in the
licence.

Meanwhile, Adil called to the people to check and pay at the counter of ‘Traffic Cops’ Padawan IPD starting from 8.00 am through to 4.00 pm.

Although the summonses are issued in another area, payment may also be made at IPD Padawan.
