MIRI: The construction of the Pan Borneo project (Phase 2), which connects Miri with Limbang and Lawas via Brunei, will be implemented during this term, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Sri Fadillah Yusof said.

According to him, the current federal government has announced the revival of the project after it was cancelled by the previous 22-month government.

Apart from that, he said the government has also given its approval for the implementation of the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR) phases 2 and 3.

“We are currently in the process of management and price evaluation. In phases 2 and 3 of this project, it will connect Miri to Sabah without going through Brunei,” he said at the Peng Lamei Ledoh Pahu Kayan ceremony organised by the Sarawak Kayan Association here last night.

In addition, Fadillah, who is also the Petra Jaya Member of Parliament, said he has been entrusted by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, to assist Minister of Works Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to ensure that all infrastructure plans in Sarawak are implemented as soon as possible.

“We had held several coordination meetings, and rest assured that these road projects will be implemented as soon as possible, including at the state level’s projects.

“This means all roads will be connected to Pan Borneo, including the coastal roads that will be upgraded as well,” he said.

However, he added, the construction of this project will definitely take some time and cannot be rushed.

“We need careful planning to implement this project because there are some challenges that we are facing, such as shortages in materials and a probable insufficient number of contractors,” he added.

During the event, Fadillah also granted RM50,000 to the Sarawak Kayan Association.
