KUCHING: Several parts of Jalan Ulu Tinjar which were damaged due to floods and the rain have been repaired.

Marudi assemblyman Datuk Penguang Manggil said the damages were worse than before and he had discussed the issue with the Public Works Department (PWD).

“Following that, the repair started a few days ago. This is only a short-term solution,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday.

As for the long-term solution, he said that he had tried to get an allocation to upgrade the road to a more comfortable and safe road according to PWD standards, that is, the R1 type road.

“In 2021, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg approved the application. However, it is still at the specification preparation stage and this project has not yet started,” he said.

In view of the deteriorating condition of the road, Penguang added he had also discussed with PWD to use some of the allocation from the approved project to repair and upgrade it  in addition to the repair work being carried out now.

“I apologise for all the inconveniences faced by the residents in this area, and I will always closely monitor the repair work of this road, and subsequently the implementation of the Jalan Ulu Tinjar upgrading project that has been approved.

“I also hope that the residents of Marudi in general and the residents of Ulu Tinjar in particular will be patient while waiting for the agency responsible for implementing the road project in accordance with the procurement procedures as set out in the Sarawak Treasury Instructions,” he said.

At the same time, he also called upon certain departments to expedite the implementation of the Jalan Ulu Tinjar upgrading project from the Lapok junction to Long Tisam.

“This is because this road is a lifeline for the residents of Ulu Tinjar,” he said.
