KAPIT: Adviser in the Chief Minister’s Department and Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi commended the harmonious spirit prevailing among Kapit folks.

He was speaking at a Malidur Rasul celebration for Kapit organised by ‘Jawatankuasa Perayaan Tetap Islam Kapit’ held in the compound of the State Office Complex at Jalan Bleteh on Saturday.

“I am very happy to see the harmonious spirit prevailing among the multi-racial community in Kapit. We are living in a diverse society and yet we come together for the celebration. This is Kapit’s uniqueness and our strength.

“I congratulate the organising committee and all the participating teams. I hope through this celebration we are able to strengthen the existing friendship and unity in our plural society,” he said.

Nanta recalled that in 2010, he was awarded the ‘Tokoh Hijrah’ Award.

“To me as your MP, it is my responsibility to look after the interest of all groups in the society. It is not something extraordinary, we all work together for a better Kapit,” he said.

Nanta revealed that the state government had allocated RM200,000 to Masjid Jabal An-Nur. He called on the management committee to discuss and plan how best to utilise the government funding for the mosque activities.

This year, some 500 Muslims from 12 teams representing the federal and state departments, NGOs and villages took part in the Maulidur Rasul celebration.

The event began at 7am with a three-kilometre procession.

Later, Nanta presented prizes to winners in the placard/banner design competitions. SK Kapit won first prize in the banner design while the Land and Survey Department came second while SMK Kapit 2 was third.
