KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leaders joining Pakatan Harapan (PH) Sarawak? It’s an old political propaganda tactic used by Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), said Corporate Affairs Assistant Minister Abdullah Saidol.

Abdullah said PH is desperate to spread such fairy tales because  its level of confidence and popularity is eroding and declining rapidly.

“Likewise, it often says its party membership is increasing by tens of thousands. Those who submit their membership are only 10 or 20 people but it says some 100 to 200 people,” he pointed out.

Abdullah said the seed of twisting facts, vicious and slanderous lies had long grown in the PH party, and the outcome of it is what the PH leaders are today.

“PH is still captivated by its success over the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, and to this day, the leaders are still acting and playing politics as if they are still the opposition,” he said.

Abdullah, who is also Semop assemblyman, said everybody has accepted the fact that the PH is the federal government of the day, and hence, must govern the

country more effectively by introducing policies that move the country towards greater excellence or a new and clean Malaysia.

“But what is happening in our country now is negativity —  racial tensions, increasing repressive actions, more complicated laws and worst of all, deteriorating economic situation,” he stressed.

Abdullah pointed out that the Sarawak GPS government did not want to be influenced by the political culture taking place in Malaya.

“But such disgusting political culture was brought in by their members who are  Sarawakians.

“This is not the atmosphere that Sarawakians were expecting when we signed the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to form the Federation of Malaysia.

“As they said, the old sweet sugarcane has turned bitter,” he said.

Abdullah said Sarawak does not want to just give in to the federal government anymore, which is why the GPS government has been bold enough to speak up about the rights and interest of the state.

“PH may be busy playing politics, but we in GPS are busy working for the rakyat.

“Isn’t it just recently PH leaders like Council of Eminent Persons chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin recognised and praised the ability of Sarawak in managing the state’s economy?” he said. On Aug 7, Sarawak PKR information chief Desmond Kho claimed that some GPS members were considering joining PKR.
