KUCHING: Pan Borneo Highway contractors are set to carry out interconnection work on 500mm HDPE Second and 500mm DICL third stage pipelines from Jalan Bulat to Simpang KJD in Sarikei on Wednesday (Sept 23).

According to Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), the work would take eight hours to complete, starting from 5pm till 1am (Sept 24).

“However, interconnection work will be postponed to the following days if circumstances do not allow it to be done on the planned day,” said the department in a statement Monday (Sept 21).

Following the interconnection work, there will be water supply disruption at several areas in KJD, namely, Mile 4 to Mile 16, Pakan (off-market area), Lemayong, Pekan Bintangor, Sungai Sian, Sungai Selidap, Bukit Papit and Lebaan areas in Sarikei division.

“We expect the disruption to occur for more than eight hours in remote areas.

“Therefore, JBALB Sarikei division and the Pan Borneo contractors took proactive steps by providing nine tanks for the scheduled provision of water supply to the affected areas as a result of the interconnection work,” the statement said.

JBALB is also working closely with the Pan Borneo contractors to minimise the use of water in order for consumers to get continuous water supply.

“This interconnection work is inevitable for the smooth construction of the Pan Borneo Highway and the upgrading of a better water supply system.

JBALB noted that all the latest developments of the interconnection work will be updated through the JBALB Sarawak Facebook page and the Rakan JBALB Sarikei Facebook page.
