SIBU: A comprehensive development plan to transform the oldest Malay village in Sibu – Kampung Datuk – into a modern Malay village is almost ready.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said that as soon as the plan was completed, the village development project which has the same model as the Darul Hana settlement in Kuching, would be implemented immediately.

According to him, the residents of the village will be given priority in owning a house in the new village, while those with extended families will be offered a home under the affordable housing scheme in Kemuyang entailing 30 lots.

“All of the infrastructure facilities such as roads and drainage and land systems will be built by the state government. The project will be implemented in phases and is expected to be completed within two years,” he said.

He told this to reporters after making an Aidilfitri visit or ‘melanggar’ in local Malay terms, to the residence of state Assistant Minister of Education and Technology Research and Assistant Minister of Housing and Local Government Dr Annuar Rapaee here yesterday.

Abang Johari and wife Datuk Amar Jumaáni Tuanku Bujang later visited the home of former Igan MP Datuk Abdul Wahab Dolah.

Prior to that, he made a similar visit to the residence of Temenggong Datuk Wan Hamid Edruce Tuanku Mohamad while later tonight, he will attend the PBB Sibu zone Gawai-Raya celebration in Taman Selera Harmoni.
