Yii during his visit to the family

KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii has come to the aid of a downtrodden family whose lives were upended after an accident left the head of the household bedridden.

He and his special assistant, George Lam, handed them food aid as an immediate measure when they went to visit the poor family in his constituency to better understand their situation.

Yii explained that the family lives in a dilapidated wooden house in Sungai Apong.

“The house was resided by a family of four where the head of the house used to be a daily labourer, the family’s only source of income.

“Unfortunately, not too long ago, the husband fell victim to a hit-and-run accident leaving him with a broken leg and hip bone.

“He is now unable to stand, and almost fully bedridden. Due to this, he is unable to work, thus, the family’s income has been cut off,” he said.

He added that the wife was also unable to go out to work as she had to take care of the husband.

“The couple have two young daughters who are currently studying in a nearby primary school. Now, they not only have to cope with daily life, but also worry about their children’s education expenses,” he said.

As such, Yii pledged that he will try his best to help the said family.

“We will seek welfare assistance for them through different channels to ease their burden,” he said.
