BAU: Police here today (Aug 18) arrested a 43-year-old man in connection with the rape of a teenage girl at a village here.

District police chief DSP Poge Nyaon said the suspect was nabbed at a house in Taman Emas near Jalan Penrissen at around 6.30pm.

“A team from the Bau Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) carried out the raid,” he said on Wednesday.

Poge said the suspect also had previous criminal records and that the police applied for a remand order against  him today.

“The case is being investigated under Section 376B of the Penal Code which provides for a minimum prison sentence of 10 years and a maximum of 30 years as well as strokes of the cane,” he added.

Previously on July 28, the Bau District Police Headquarters said the suspect was wanted by the authorities to assist in investigation into a case under 376B of the Penal Code.

“The man is suspected to be involved in a rape case reported to the police on July 19 at 10.47pm,” it said.
