Police detain two robbers of convenience store

MIRI: Two local men who posed as customers and robbed a 24-hour convenience shop here early Thursday morning have been detained by police, less than eight hours after the alleged crime.

Their actions were recorded on a closed circuit television (CCTV) at the premises. In the 1.30am incident, the duo had posed as customers upon entering a convenience store at Jalan North Yu Seng before pointing a knife at a female cashier in the outlet.

Cash amounting RM 600 were missing, and hundreds of reload cards were also stolen in the heist.

Total losses were estimated at around RM2, 500.

Fortunately, the female cashier was left unharmed.

The suspects aged 33 and 35 were detained around 9.30am yesterday along Jalan Haji Lampan by a team of CID personnel led by Inspector Fredly Juing.

Police also recovered cash amounting RM120 and several reload cards.

Miri police Chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said both suspects are currently being placed under police custody for questioning.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for robbery.
