KUCHING: The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) yesterday received a donation of personal protective equipment (PPEs) worth RM3,000 from the Federation of Chinese Association of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division and Home Max Design Sdn Bhd yesterday.

The PPEs, which comprise 2,000 disposable gloves, 400 disposable face masks, 500 disposable raincoats, 50 cartons of mineral water and hand sanitisers, will be distributed to fire and rescue stations (BBPs) in Kuching, Samarahan and other Divisions for disinfection work in public areas and epicentres.

The Federation of Chinese Association of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Division president Datuk Richard Wee and Home Max Design Sdn Bhd’s Gary Ong handed over the PPEs to the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) assistant operations director Tiong Ling Hii at Padungan BBP yesterday morning.

Tiong expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Sarawak Bomba to both parties for their donations.

“Next, we will be involved with the prisons which have applied for disinfection work.

“That is why PPEs are important. We do buy them but they are not enough.

“We are lucky that associations and companies are donating them to us. It will ease our burden and improve the morale among the firefighters,” he said adding that such donations are welcome.

“These PPEs are not just distributed to the BBPs in Kuching but also those in Samarahan, Sibu and Miri because they have also started disinfection work there.”

Tiong added that last week, Bomba received applications for disinfection work from MAS Cargo and epicentres.

He explained that disinfection work was carried out daily in several red zones in Kuching and Samarahan with a maximum of 10 personnel for each operation.

“We only assign 10 personnel to let the public know that we are also adhering to the movement control order.

“To date, we have carried out 58 disinfection operations in Sarawak,” he said.

Also present at the handing over ceremony were Sarawak Bomba Kuching Zone Chief Henderi Ardimansyah and Padungan BBP chief Abdul Mutalif Jaafar.
