Premier leads Islamic agencies to Quran recital

KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg led a group recitation of the Quran at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall last night (April 13).

Some 600 employees representing Islamic agencies under the Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) gathered at the Dewan Kompleks Islam Sarawak for the Al-Quran recitation and iftar with the Premier.

Also reciting the Quran were Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohammad Abu Bakar Marzuki, and Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication and Minister Responsible for Sarawak Islamic Affairs Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dr Ripin Lamat, chief political secretary to the Premier Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, MIS chairman Datuk Misnu Taha, state mufti Datuk Kipli Yassin and Sarawak Islamic Religious Department director Khalidi Ibrahim were present as well.

The takhtim reading was read at the end of the Quran reading which was followed by the breaking-of-fast ceremony.

At the same event, a sum of RM902,400 was presented to Urusetia Saudara Kita (USK) under the supervision of MIS and Hari Raya donations were handed over to 100 children from Anak-Anak Saudara Kita.

Abang Johari and his wife Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Dr Abdul Rahman and his wife Datin Siti Shorgayah Ahmad Zaidin alongside Misnu and his wife Datin Jamilah Said presented the contributions to the recipients.

Abang Johari and guests of honour also joined the maghrib, isyak, tarawih and witir prayers in congregation with those representing the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department, Sarawak Mufti Department, Sarawak Sharia Justice Department and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak.
