KAPIT: A 40-door longhouse Rumah Bundong Tajok at the foot of Bukit Goram along Sungai Kapit which has been endangered by soil erosion got an immediate attention of local people’s representative Jefferson Jamit Unyat.

The Bukit Goram rep last Tuesday paid a working visit to the community dwelling especially to inspect the site of severe soil erosion at the side of the longhouse by the stream.

Addressing the longhouse residents after a meeting with the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) Jamit told them his visit among others was to inspect the area affected by the soil erosion due to the recent heavy rainfall.

“I received a report from Tuai Rumah Bundong on the incidence through Kapit District Officer and I am here to assess the severity of the soil erosion that has endangered the longhouse. I have visited the site and will allocate fund through my Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund to construct the culvert to ensure the smooth flow of stream water from the upper slope,” said Jamit.

Once the culvert is completed, the surrounding areas will be filled with earth and levelled properly to enable them to construct the proposed proper venue for any longhouse celebration or function, he pointed out, adding that the project construction could be done through “gotong-royong” (mutual assist).

Touching on politics, Jamit expressed his thankfulness to the longhouse residents along Sungai Kapit in Bukit Goram area for being his and GPS government’s strong supporters. Stay united politically as the 12th State Election draws nearer, he advised them.

“I thanked all of you for your strong support. We don’t know when the election is to be held. It is the chief minister’s prerogative to dissolve the current term and to announce the date for the new election. I call on all of you to stay united politically and to vote for GPS candidate to win with big majority,” he added

Earlier on behalf of the longhouse residents, Tuai Rumah Bundong thanked Jamit for allocating fund to construct the culvert and to level the area meant for constructing a venue for any longhouse function. He pledged his full support for Jamit to defend his Bukit Goram seat in the coming state election.
