KUCHING: The rich diversity in Sarawak plays a significant role in fostering unity and building a progressive nation, according to Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin.
During the Gawai Day Pupils Integration for Unity Plan (PIUP) celebration at SMK Baru Miri, the Sarawak Minister for Transport pointed out that the customs and traditions of the Dayak community have greatly contributed to nurturing the spirit of unity in Malaysia.
“The prosperity and stability enjoyed in Sarawak today are the outcomes of collective cooperation among people of all races. To sustain this unity, it’s important to practise tolerance and embrace a respectful attitude towards one another.”
Lee’s text-of-speech was delivered by Miri councillor Jeffery Phang during the event on Friday (June 16).
He further highlighted the significance of events like the PIUP celebration in strengthening unity among school members.
“Such celebrations, I believe, contribute to fostering teamwork and transcending barriers of race, ethnicity, and religion.”
He expressed his hope for the perpetuation of strong bonds of friendship and the spirit of unity within the school.
“Good relations and close cooperation among all parties involved in organising activities or programmes for festivals are key to ensuring their success.”
