KUCHING: The relevant authorities have been called to take immediate measures to protect the rock formations that resemble a ‘lion head’ and a ‘baby horse drinking head’ at Tusan Beach in Bekenu.

In making this call, Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting said this is to prevent the rock formations from disappearing due to erosion.

“Erosion is serious and relevant authorities should immediately visit this place and adequate steps must be taken to protect and preserve these lion head and baby horse drinking head structures,” he said in a Facebook post after visiting the rock structures at Tusan Beach on Monday (Jan 4).

The Piasau assemblyman said unfortunately, there used to be a ‘drinking horse’ structure which was famously known but then it was gone in Feb last year.

“Besides the lion head, we also discovered few interesting structures formed and shaped by the natural elements — the wind, the rain, the sun and the fierce waves along the beach,” he said.

In the meantime, he also called upon the public to take the opportunity to visit such rock structures.

“When free, please bring your family and visit Tusan Beach. Take a walk in the morning during the weekend and then proceed to Bekenu for lunch, and try the famous ‘Betutu’ fish (Marble Goby fish) and prawns too. The air is really fresh,” he said.

He also urged the public to check the weather and calendar for the tides before visiting Tusan Beach to avoid high tide which may pose danger.
