KUCHING:
Former Barisan Nasional candidate from Parti Rakyat Sarawak for the Lubok Antu parliamentary seat in the 14th General Election, Robert Pasang Alam (pic), died yesterday morning. Robert, 52, breathed his last around 1am at the Sarawak General Hospital here.

Survived by his wife Jeniah Aja, a son and daughter, he was said to be suffering from terminal cancer. Both his children are already adults and currently working as engineers. Robert was fielded as a new face by PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing in the last parliamentary election to replace incumbent Datuk William Nyalau Badak.

In the election, Robert, who hailed from Rumah San Panjai, Lubok Antu, however, lost to Independent Jugah Muyang, a former PRS Pujut branch chief, in a three cornered-fight. The other candidate was PKR Sarawak secretary Nicholas Bawin Anggat. Prior to joining politics, Robert had worked as a senior high court registrar, magistrate, assistant public prosecutor and senior federal lawyer. He had also worked as the Sabah Director of Prosecution.
