KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) said it would not be shackled by limited emotions and would develop a broad, more encompassing perspective – a Sarawakian perspective –  to nurture a united front for all races.

Formerly known as United People’s Party (UPP), it said it would not waver from its firm stand to struggle for the interest of all Sarawakians, irrespective of race, creed and religion.

“We will reject racism in any form and condemn extremism and radicalism. Whether as UPP or PSB, the main characteristics of our party will remain unchanged. We will always make multi-racialism the main principle and strength of our party,” it said in a press statement issued by its secretariat today.

It claimed to be ready to raise its profile and extend its wings the length and breadth of Sarawak, in both urban and rural areas.

“We are ever ready to work with any like-minded persons who believe in our struggles. We also welcome those who can share a similar sense of belonging and the spirit of oneness as the common destiny of all communities in Sarawak.

“It is with this in mind that we welcome leaders from other parties to join us,” it said in reference to a decision to accept former leaders of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Parti Tenaga Rakyat (Teras) into the party.

Earlier today, PSB leaders hosted a luncheon at Sarawak Club here to welcome the party hoppers. Among them are former Home Affairs Deputy Minister and Sri Aman MP Datuk Masir Kujat, former Federal Minister in Prime Minister’s Department and former Selangau MP Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun and former Lubok Antu MP Datuk William Nyallau Badak from PRS, while from Teras are its acting president Banyi Beriak and former assistant minister and former Marudi assemblyman Datuk Sylvester Entri Muran.

PSB said the party believes that tens of thousands of people from different groups are going to join it.

“In times to come, our party will be able to represent large segments of all groups and will very soon acquire a strong standing far beyond the age of our party,” it said.

“PSB pledges its loyalty and full support to Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg particularly in his fight for Sarawak rights enshrined in the Federal Constitution and MA63.”

The party is also fully behind Abang Johari with regards to his new economic roadmap to make Sarawak a developed and high-income state.

“We will give full support to his programmes and activities, particularly his rural transformation effort to propel Sarawak into a new era of development,” it said.
