SIBU: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) are expected to join Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the upcoming Chinese New Year, said PSB deputy president Dr Johnical Rayong.

“I was informed by PSB President Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh that we received the green light to join PDP from higher-ups,” he said when met by reporters at the PDP Christmas Dinner held at a renowned hotel here today (Dec 24).

However, Johnical refrained from disclosing further specifics or the authoritative figure behind this decision, which involves more than 80,000 PSB members throughout the state.

“We will be meeting the Registrar of Societies (RoS) soon to ensure that we did not breach the anti-party hopping law.

“Next, we will hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to dissolve PSB (before joining PDP). PDP will also conduct an EGM to officially accept PSB,” he said.

Earlier, PDP President Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing in his speech urged PDP members to be ready to accept PSB members joining the party.

“We will continue to fight together. As political leaders, of course, we make mistakes here and there, but we must know when to stop fighting with each other and work together for the sake of the people.

“If people condemn us (due to the PSB joining us), we ignore. What is important for us is to develop Sarawak. Sarawak first!” he said.
