SIBU: A public servant in Sibu was left stunned after losing RM8,999 to a fraudulent ‘Shopee Cashback’ offer.

According to Sibu OCPD ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, the victim, a woman in her 30s, reported the incident on Wednesday (June 14).

“The victim received a phone call from an individual claiming to be from Shopee, who informed her that she had received a Shopee Cashback of RM3,000 on June 14.

“The caller then provided her with a Shopee link through a WhatsApp message (http:/ rm3000webhostapp.com/sms) and instructed her to fill in her banking information, including passwords, usernames, and ATM card PIN numbers,” he said in a statement on Thursday (June 15).

“After providing the requested information, the victim received a message from her bank stating that there were deductions from three transactions.

“Upon checking with the bank, she discovered that three transactions amounting to RM8,999 had been made to two unknown accounts without her knowledge.

“Realising that she had been deceived, the victim promptly went to the nearest police station to file a report,” ACP  Zulkipli disclosed.
