Land sale scam

KUCHING: The public and communities in the Santubong and Kuching areas, in particular, must always be wary of individuals or companies offering the distribution or sale of land for residential lots in certain areas.

The Land and Survey Department (JTS) said it had never appointed a third party to manage the selection of participants for the purpose of distribution of residential lots in Resettlement Scheme (SPS) and Village Expansion Scheme (SPK).

“For information, the government through JTS is implementing the development of the SPS and SPK schemes for the purpose of preparing residential lots throughout the state in a planned manner.

“The distribution of residential lots are made by an appointed selection committee which consists of JTS, the Resident’s Office, District Office as well as community and chiefs as reference sources for the selection committee.

“Selection of participants for the purpose of distribution of residential lots in SPS and SPK is done in accordance with established procedures,” it reiterated on Thursday (Aug 18).

However, JTS would not be liable for any claims or losses suffered by the victims of this modus operandi.

The public are also reminded not to continue to be influenced or believe any dubious residential lot sale offers, and advised to directly refer to JTS if they wish to review or verify the relevant information.

JTS said a police report had been lodged with regard to this irresponsible activity.

“Their modus operandi involves offering residential lots as well as lot cleaning work at a set cost. They also use social media platforms, in which some people are easily influenced.

“However, what often happens through this modus operandi is that the land offered is government land. The public would be told that the land had been approved by the government for residential purposes.

“This activity is against the law and strict action will be taken.”
