Quarantine flouter arrested while at work

DALAT:  A man who was under house quarantine at Rumah Dagang, Rantau Ensurai, Batang Oya near here was arrested by police on Friday (Oct 16).

He was caught while going out to work in Kuala Matu.

Dalat district police chief DSP Saga Chunggat said the subject, Steward Muji, was ordered to undergo house quarantine (HSO) from Oct 4 to 17, soon after arriving from Kuala Lumpur.

He said one swab test had been taken from the subject and the result was negative.

“The second swab test was taken, but before the result was obtained, he went out of the house to work in Kuala Matu while his quarantine period has not expired,” Saga said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 17).

He added the subject’s absence from his house was realised during a routine check by a monitoring team from Stapang police station on Oct 15.

Saga said according to the subject’s mother, the subject went out, believed to be with his employer on Oct 14 to work in Kuala Matu despite being prevented by the mother.

He revealed Dalat police immediately searched for the subject, and with the assistance of Daro police, the subject was located and arrested in Kuala Matu on Friday morning (Oct 16).

He said after documentation process, the subject was released with bail and ordered to complete the quarantine period until Oct 17.

The case is being investigated under Section 269 of the Penal Code and Section 22 (b) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.
